DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD) IN SPORTS SCIENCE

The programmes aims at training high level workforce needed to champion research and innovations required in various disciplines of Sports Science including Sport Management, Exercise Science, Health and Fitness. Graduates are expected to succeed in the careers in industry, academics and consultancy.

The PhD Programme shall be run by full time mode and part time mode. For full time mode the programme shall run for a minimum of three academic years and for part time mode a minimum of four academic years.

The programme shall be conducted by students participating in research lectures, scheduled students seminars and presentations

Programme structure for Full time mode

Year One semester One: Candidates choose and study two topic related to subject/theme of their approved concept paper and present them during scheduled seminar sessions and attend methodology lectures of three per week.

Year One semester Two: shall consist of scheduled seminars and presentation sessions of proposals leading to defence of proposal at the end of the semester. They continue with two 3-hour lectures per week on research and writing the thesis (academic communication)

Year Two Semester One: shall consist of presentation of research plan and progress as scheduled by the department

Year Two Semester Two: shall consist of presentation of research results as scheduled by the department.

Year Three Semester One: Shall be for the presentation of the write-up to the thesis and defence if completed

Year Three Semester Two: Shall be to finish the thesis write up and defend the thesis.

Programme structure for Part time mode

Year One semester One: Candidates choose and study two topic related to subject/theme of their approved concept paper and present them during scheduled seminar sessions and attend methodology lectures of two hours per week.

Year One semester Two: shall consist of candidates taking one or more topic area of their approved concept paper conduct scheduled seminars on topic and continue with two hours per week methodology lectures.

Year Two Semester One: shall consist of conducting seminars on their proposals leading to defense of the proposal at the end of the semester and start the two hours lectures per week on thesis writing

Year Two Semester Two: shall consist of presentation of research plan and progress as schedules in the department.

Year Three Semester One: Shall be for the presentation of research results by students according to the scheduled of the department.

Year Three Semester Two: Shall be for the write up to the research and defense if completed

Year Four Semester One: shall be for completion of research leading to the defense of the thesis.
